GETTING TO KNOW BRANDON
Why did you start writing, and what was your first series?

I first started writing because I was dissatisfied with many of the anime I watched, particularly Naruto. I couldn’t stand how Naruto was this one-trick pony who only knew how to do the Shadow Clone Jutsu and the Rasengan, while Sasuke was like a Jutsu encyclopedia. My friend introduced me to a site called fanfiction.net and my writing career snowballed from there. My first series was a Naruto fanfic called Shifts in Life, but my first original series was American Kitsune.

Which series of yours would you recommend new readers start with?

That really depends. If you want something that showcases my career as a whole, I’d recommend American Kitsune. It was my first original series. It’s also the one that sort of embodies what I enjoy writing about. However, if you have more adult tastes, I’d recommend WIEDERGEBURT: Legend of the Reincarnated Warrior, which is by far my most popular series.

Tell me more about your goals! What is the next year going to bring?
My two biggest goals are to adapt the American Kitsune series into a comic/manga and sell the translation rights to my books to a Japanese company like Kadokawa. I’m also publishing my books on a broader market, so I hope all my books will soon be available on Apple, Google, Kindle, Kobo, and Nook. Next year will hopefully see all my books published wide.

Any advice for fellow authors just starting out?

The only advice I can give is to write what you love. If you don’t love writing and don’t write about the things you enjoy, you might as well not write. I know some to-market authors who would tell you otherwise, but to me, writing is about telling the stories I want to tell, the way I want to tell them.

You recently moved your catalog from Amazon Kindle exclusive to wide publication. Where can readers find your books?

Everywhere. Well, almost everywhere. I’ve now got several books on Apple Books, Google Play, Kobo, and Nook. Of course, I am still on Amazon Kindle, but I am no longer on Kindle Unlimited since they require exclusivity.
